Perfect for a fidgety toddler!! We have an artscroll childrens siddur but my toddler is still too young to sit through the bedtime Shema, he gets anxious so quickly. This story is perfect to start him off with being accustomed to the Shema.
I read this book with my son each night before I feed him and lay him down to sleep. It is about a small child'd bedtime routine, which ends with the recitation of the Shema in both transliterated Hebrew and English. My son likes the rhyming text and that it is very short. He's 10 months old and doesn't have a lot of patience for long books, especially when he is tired and/or hungry. I would imagine when he is older, we will still read this book, but might add some other stories first to help him wind down.
Jacqueline Jules is a talented children's book author who simultaneously captures important life lessons and a child's imagination. Her books make learning about Judaism fun.
We love all of the board books in this series - and this is no exception. Short and simple, which some people do not necessarily like (very simple!) but for introducing young kids to Judaism it's perfect! I look forward to buying more books from this series... and they are all very reasonable!
My son asks for this book every night at bedtime.
This book is perfect for my son. He is 8-9 months and loves, loves, loves this book. Every time I pull it out a huge smile wipes across his face. Very simply written and sturdy material for young ones. Recommend 100%.
My three year old nephew Adam learned how to say the Sh'ma, and learned how important the Sh'ma is by reading GOODNIGHT SH'MA, which he got as a Chanukah present from his uncle. The simple, straightforward language and gentle, colorful pictures allowed him to understand the Sh'ma and its meaning after just two readings. Now he says the Sh'ma every night before he goes to sleep. Good boy!
